Being held at the Newcomer Welcome Centre at 432 Main Street, there will be a free form discussion and presentation on ways to recognize and stand up against racism.

Tyler Bastedo, Community Connections Coordinator for the Moose Jaw Multicultural Council(MJMC) explained why this issue isn't new to our area.

"I think it’s extremely important to note that while MJMC works primarily with newcomers, that racism doesn’t just affect newcomers to Canada. We live and work on treaty 4 territory here in Moose Jaw which is the traditional homeland of the Cree, Assiniboine, Saulteaux, and Metis peoples and we should be cognizant that we share this land with many cultures who have been victimized and marginalized by Canada’s colonial legacy. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission has 94 Calls to action that everyone can read and make a commitment to one or more that is meaningful to them," said Bastedo.

The presentation and open forum will take place on Thursday at 2 pm.
