Sunday fallen officers were being remembered at the RCMP Academy in Regina.

The annual National Memorial Service honours regular members, special constables, and civilian members who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Sgt. Tim Schwartz of the Moose Jaw RCMP has attended several of these memorial services, and says they are always important.

"It's emotional. When they read the list of members that have passed on over the year, we obviously respect them and what they've done and what they've contributed to the role of the police in Canada."

Schwartz says it can be tough to go through the list of names of those who lost their lives.

"When we do lose a member, as this year we acknowledge Constable (Richer) Debuc and the loss of his life, there's definitely a sense of loss we all feel in the RCMP, whenever we lose a member."

Debuc from Quebec was killed in March when his vehicle collided with a tractor.

Events included a memorial parade and chapel service.
