A proven concept Family Resource Centre is on its way to Moose Jaw.

With funding being provided through the Canada-Saskatchewan Early Learning and Child Care Agreement, Deputy Premier and Education Minister Gordon Wyant announced $1.5 million in funding to create Early Years Family Resource Centres in seven communities including Moose Jaw, Nipawin, Prince Albert and Saskatoon among others.

"Primarily the idea of a family resource centre is to make sure is that the place where families and children can access reliable information to support and participate in services like parenting programs, free early learning, literacy opportunities, that may otherwise be hard to find in a community."

In partnership with KidsFirst, the centre will give families and children a place to access reliable information, literacy programs, parenting programs and more.

Wyant has witnessed influences with each pilot centre, stating "we've been operating 3 pilots in Saskatchewan, in Yorkton, Regina and Sandy Bay. We've seen some great results from that. What we've seen in those family resource centres is literally tens of thousands of families that have visited - that have used - these centres. These are really kind of a clearing house to provide families with resources that they need so that their children will be ready for school when they get to that point."

Moose Jaw's new Family Resource Centre has a planned opening of Fall 2019.
