Ironwood Family Fitness will be a new fitness club at a familiar location.

They've taken over the space at the old YMCA location on the basement level at the Moose Jaw Co-op.

Heath Drake is the owner, and once it opens on July 2 under the new name will have some of the equipment familiar to those who have worked out there for years.

"I know a lot of people that work out, and they prefer this bench, and prefer these bars," he said. "And those will all be there for them. It'll kind of keep that home atmosphere. Hopefully we'll keep all the clients. I'm pretty sure I'm keeping the majority of everybody."

Moose Jaw YMCA's Athabasca Street location was sold off as part of the organization's winding down in the city.

"In the first month, we're just going to be trying to get everything organized and working, and the stuff that needs to be repaired, repaired," he said. "And then we're going to start renovations after the first month to get everything up to where it shoudl be. So it's a nice, clean bright facility that everybody actually wants to be in."

Drake said childminding will still be a part of the new business, and it's something not a lot of workout places have.

"We're keeping some of the staff and trying to keep most of the trainers," he said. "I know for sure most of them are, so those classes will stay."

Most of the equipment will be the same, and the childminding that was at that Y location will continue at Ironwood.

A Y member for years, he said he wasn't aware they had a spin class until recently.
