After 30 years, the Saskatchewan Government has announced that Saskatchewan Co-operative Wildlife Management Survey (SK CWMS) is making the switch from pen and paper survey to an electronic one.

"The paper based survey has been in place since the late 1980's and we have seen participation start to drop," explains Wildlife Ecologist, Allison Henderson. "So we looked to this new technology as a way to boost participation, engage younger generations and anyone who's savvy with those smart phones. And it is more cost effective and more efficient, most certainly."

If you head over to the app store on your smart phone and look up "Saskatchewan Wildlife Survey" or "CWMS" you'll be able to find and download the app.

Then you can call 1-800-567-4224 to recieve your participation number and activation code and start using the survey.

"You're providing really key information about juvenile to female ratios and male to female for those species. That information indicates population growth and survival for these species and helps us with out planning."

There is also five specific observation periods where they are looking for information on white-tailed and mule deer, moose, elk, sharp-tailed grouse and Wild Turkey.

Even if you're still a fan of the paper survey, you can still receive one by calling the same number above.

You can also check out the Government of Saskatchewan website for more on the app and observation period dates.
