Downtown Moose Jaw is going to get some new street lights in the near future as SaskPower looks to avoid any further problems with their aging infrastructure.

In the past few years, lights have been burning out frequently and some poles have been pushed over by the wind, prompting a response. The city pays the Crown for the street lights and City Engineer Josh Mickleborough says they've struck a deal.

"The proposal is to replace the existing 26 lights with 41 single head, galvanized light standards and SaskPower has requested that we cover the cost of paving." reported Mickleborough Monday night to council. "When they install the new electrical conduit and wiring, they will be putting it right next to the curb."

SaskPower has also agreed to rewire power to traffic lights and the decorative lights in the downtown area as part of the project. The goal is to try and have the work done before winter and the cost to the city for paving, would be around $40,000.
