On his summer tour, trying to get connected with the people of the province, Opposition Leader Ryan Meili is in Moose Jaw Friday.

Meili has had a lot of firsts since becoming the leader of the New Democratic Party, and a few more coming up. He had his first session and now the first summer as leader. Now, he's preparing for the fall session, the opposition that they will face and getting his party ready for the next election.

Don't be too surprised to see Meili down at Sidewalk Days today, as he's been trying to get more connected with the people of the province. He says he's seen some similarities during his tour.

"We've been traveling to lots of different places and you really do hear different things in every part of the province but [also] the common themes," Meili said. "One is there's a sense that people are looking for a change. That they're frustrated with the Sask Party that they felt like, particularly rural Saskatchewan more and more, that they're being taken for granted."

Meili will be meeting Moose Jaw residents to prepare for the 2020 election and hear from some of the people, and borrowing a line from the Saskatchewan Party in 2007, Meili says the province is ready for change since they have been in power for so long.

"I think it's also a tendency of government and certainly I'm seeing it in this government, but they get tired," Meili said. "They've been there for a decade they came in with a set of ideas and reasons for running and now it appears they're just running to maintain power. The challenge for the NDP and I think the opportunity for us, we now have a new vision and a new set of ideas."

Meili was elected the leader of the NDP party on March 3rd of this year.
