An outburst came from Councillor Brian Swanson last night as elected officials continue to deal with the fall-out of the downtown facility and fieldhouse investigation.

Swanson, Crystal Froese, and Scott McMann faced sanctions for their mishandling of employee complaints earlier this year.

One of their punishments was being removed from boards and committees.  Last night, the other councillors voted on who would fill those positions.

After some difficulty with procedure, Swanson unleashed. "There's been a few giggles and ha ha here, but I just want to make the point that I personally don't think it's very funny that Councillor McMann and I are excluded from these boards. And I would challenge the assumption, and that serves the interest of the community very well."

Mayor Fraser Tolmie fired back, saying councillors were forced to pick up the extra work because of the sanctions, a direct result of Swanson's actions after he took home confidential personnel files as chair of the DFFH board. "We made decisions based on the information that was brought forward. We took a long time to deliberate on that. We had to act swiftly in the best interest of this community. We had outside investigators. We had outside legal advice. And we made a decision that was in the best interest of this community."

Swanson faced the most severe sanctions as board chair of the DFFH.
