Local groups will be pleased to know that the Parks and Recreation committee has decided to hold the line on facility user rates for 2017.

User fees affect all organizations and individuals who rent time and space at city-owned facilities like the Kinsmen Sportsplex.

"Over the last 7 or 8 years there's actually been significant rate increases up to 10% for some of our recreational users. In fact, some of our rates have now been exceeded by quite a bit of some other municipalities around Saskatchewan," explained Councillor Chris Warren, who sits on the board.

He noted that the current rates are on par with past projections.

"The City of Moose Jaw typically likes to (set) recovery rates between 45 and 50%. With this proposed budget, with no rate increases, it's around 46% so we're kind of in line with what we've been trying to do over the years."

Despite the rates being on target Warren said they want to do an extensive review.

"It's been a while I guess since it's been done, a rate review on the fees and fee structures for all of our parks and recreational facilities. That's something that will take place (in) 2017 for possible rate increases or whatever the case may be in 2018."

The review will result in recommendations for council to consider during the 2018 budget process. The freeze on fees does not apply to Yara Centre of Mosaic Place.
