The scandal at the DFFH still resonates in the community, and one resident has created an online petition calling for the resignation of Councillor Brian Swanson.

Feeling cheated by the councillor, Jody Chell saw so many people online speaking about the scandal but found there wasn't a lot of action. She decided to create the petition because all the talk seemed like some encouragement to try and do something.

"We, the Voters of Moose Jaw, petition Councillor Brian Swanson, Councillor for the City of Moose Jaw, that he immediately resign his elected seat based on the above actions," Chell wrote in her petition calling for the resignation of the councillor.

As of Sunday afternoon, close to 500 people have signed onto the petition. Chell has a goal of 2000 people signing the petition.

Three councillors were reprimanded and sanctioned as a result into the investigation of the DFFH board, but out of the three, Chell believes Swanson is the most at fault.

"As an Occupational Health and Safety Consultant, I work with harassment cases weekly and to see those files leave that office without anybody's consent, that's what I'm focusing on is the breach of confidentiality with Councillor Swanson. He was the one that was reprimanded for that breach."

In her petition, Chell cites the multiple bylaws that were found to be broken after the investigation, and the "egregious errors reportedly committed by Councillor Swanson as Chair of the Moose Jaw Downtown Facility and Field House."

The petition also asks the councillor to step down by October 15th, just two days before the October 17th by-election.

"My goal would be that Councillor Swanson does the right thing for the voices of the people of Moose Jaw and just voluntarily resign," Chell explained. "If that doesn't happen I do have a date on the petition of October 15th, if Councillor Swanson doesn't resign, I'll cross that bridge when I get there and know that I am certainly ready to cross that bridge when the time comes."

One supporter signing the petition explained "I'm signing because it is appalling that this was known and allowed to go on. Swanson tried to cover it up by taking relevant documents to his home."

Councillor Swanson declined to give a comment on the petition calling for his resignation.
