In the near future the city will close the tender on phase 2 of cast iron water main replacement work in Moose Jaw and set a schedule for the work.

"The design was complete earlier this year and the project is out to tender, we're going to be closing the tender in the next week or two here," said City Engineer, Josh Mickleborough. "We'll have bids at the point from contractors that are interested in carrying out the work. We'll be awarding (the contractor the work) and getting construction schedules from the contractors at that point."

This year they've chosen problem areas that have continuous sections, with hopes to lay more pipe and pavement than in phase 1.

"It's just a slight variation on last year, these are the hot spots again... they have the highest number of blocks. We did try and pick longer, more continuous sections to do."

Another similarity is the time frame in which crews will be working on cast iron water mains with taking into account schedules and weather.

"With the construction portion this summer...I believe that last year work started at the beginning of June and finished up in late October. So we're anticipating a similar kind of construction window this year."

Mickleborough added that rain will have the greatest impact on their timeline, especially towards the end of the project when crews will be trying to get the pavement portion complete.
