Thanks to quick action from local authorities, one prisoner failed to escape custody.

On Wednesday around 11:40 am at Moose Jaw's Provincial Court House, a prisoner who was being transported by the Moose Jaw Police Service attempted to escape as he was being brought back outside to a police vehicle. Officers of the Police Service and the Court House were able to quickly capture the prisoner as he was wearing handcuffs and ankle restraints, and the prisoner did not leave the property.

No one was injured during the incident; however, according to the police, the male prisoner attempted self-harm once being returned to his cell. As a result of his injuries officials transported him to our local hospital to be assessed by medical staff.

He was returned to his cell following treatment, and he remains in custody until he returns to court.

Officers say it is still under review if he will be facing charges for the attempted escape.
