Canada Road Safety Week continues on, and Saturday is National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day.

The safety week began on 15th and runs until the 21st. The goal of the week is to curb the number of people driving dangerously. Whether it be by speeding, driving distracted, impaired or without seat belts.

In 2017, 37 people died in 32 impaired related collisions on RCMP monitored roadways. Since the beginning of 2018, 9 people have now died in 8 impaired collisions incidents, and the years barely halfway over.

"I know that definitely the numbers don't seem to be decreasing as much as we would like them to but it comes down to that maybe the more police on the road the more we will hopefully hold people accountable and remove those people off the road," said Sgt. Tim Schwartz with the Moose Jaw RCMP. "Hopefully they get help and learn from the situation."

Like they have been doing these past few days, law enforcement will have an increased presence on the highways to help stop dangerous drivers. Especially with it being the long weekend and families travelling together, they want everyone to remain safe on the roadways.
