The RCMP is sending out a warning to the public about the dangers of consuming illicit drugs.

After two separate instances where RCMP were involved in cases that are linked back to fentanyl. One in Kamloops on March 14th where two individuals were found to have cocaine and fentanyl in their systems and one on March 16th in Maidstone. This situation resulted in the death of two men, and while the investigation is in preliminary stages it is suspected that the deaths may be a result of drug overdose, but they are unsure of which exact substances caused the overdose.

The RCMP is reminding everyone that street drugs are often represented as one substance but could also unknowingly contain fentanyl and carfentinil. Contact with these substances should be avoided completely, as 0.25 milligrams of fentanyl can be fatal if inhaled or touched. If you come upon these drugs, you should contact the police immediately and leave the drugs alone, as police will dispatch the proper resources to deal with the drugs.

Fentanyl, carfentanil and other illicit opioids continue to be a top priority for the RCMP as they are actively partnering with other agencies to stop the public health threat caused by these drugs.
