Reach out.

Two simple words that are so significant, especially for one student from the University of Lethbridge.

Madria Steven is originally from Moose Jaw and now studies psychology in Alberta. In her spare time she continues to pursue her passion for art. With acrylic paints and digital art, she's created pieces that share a deeper meaning - reaching out to broken children.

"It's being taught in some of the classes I've attended that 'those kids have nothing,' and that's a direct quote. I was bothered by that."

By letting the artwork tell the story, she used that phrase as the artistic model, "Things that I would like to learn, things that I have learned. The kind of person that I would choose to be, which is somebody who reaches out when somebody's hurting."

The message has been translated into nearly 600 pieces of work which are currently displayed at the Mosaic Gallery at the Moose Jaw Conexus Visual Arts Centre inside the Cultural Centre.

The exhibition will run until February 27th.
