The city of Moose Jaw is looking for your input on how much elected officials should be paid.

Under the current formula that determines elected officials salaries, it says Moose Jaw's mayor should be paid 47% of what the Saskatchewan Cabinet Minister makes, and that city council members should be paid one-third of what the mayor makes.

City Clerk/Solicitor Myron Gulka-Tiechko, says a panel has been created to review remuneration.

"We have a three-member panel. We asked the Chamber of Commerce and the Moose Jaw Labour Council for nominations and they provided us with the name of Brenda Berry, and the name of Greg McIntyre. It's a three-member committee that's reviewing remuneration of our elected members and we'll come forward with the recommendation with what that should be after the next election."

Gulka-Tiechko is the chair of the committee and continued with background information on the mayor's salary compared to other communities in Saskatchewan.

"(In) Swift Current, for example, their mayor is considered a part-time position - not a full-time position but that salary is actually higher than our mayor who is (operating in) a full-time position. We wanted to put that information out to the public and get their sense of what they think a fair compensation for our elected members should be."

A survey was created and released by the city of Moose Jaw comparing our elected official's salaries to that of other cities in Saskatchewan, which can be found in the city of Moose Jaw website. You're asked to fill it out any time between now and January 28.

If you would like to voice your opinion in person, the City will be holding a meeting for the public next Wednesday, January 22nd.
