The South Hill Fire Hall is in need of some significant roof repairs after an ongoing leak, and this week they got approval for funding to fix the problem.

At Monday's Moose Jaw City Council meeting, Deputy Fire Chief Mike Russell addressed the issue.

"We've tried a few times to repair this roof and it continually leaks," explained Russell. He said the roof is "28 years old and (when installed) had a lifespan of 15 years."

The cost of the roof project is pegged at $45,000 and since the repairs were not part of their 2017 budget approved by the city, Russell sought permissionl to defer a pair of approved projects in order to move the roof to number one on the priority list.

"The two projects to be deferred are training ground upgrades, which would be at the back of the south hill hall, and then some pavement rehabilitation..potholes and the like," he said. "Hopefully we can fix the roof now as opposed to later because repairs in the past have not worked."
