RuBarb Productions held a press conference this morning in regards to their current status with the Moose Jaw Cultural Centre. The local theatre production group has been told they are being evicted but claims they aren't sure why.

The non-profit organization says they are committed to enhancing the cultural vitality in Moose Jaw and area, and that they help young people develop their talents, leadership skills, and allow them to perform on stage with professionals. The theatre group also says they've invested around $10,000 into their space at the Cultural Centre, including adding phone lines and internet to rooms.

Past Chair of RuBarb Productions, Glenn Hagel, explained how the situation unravelled.

"After having had some discussions which included the use of space, RuBarb had already indicated willingness to give up some of the space, to co-share some of the space, and to be flexible on some of the space if they need it. We were shocked when we were told the Cultural Centre didn't want to continue as our landlord, and that we are to be out June 30th."

The eviction notice comes at a tough time as well, as RuBarb Productions is just about to kick off a busy few months.

"This summer, July and August, are absolutely our two busiest months of the year. We have our Summer Theatre Festival and Kids Drama Camp running in July and August. This time to be looking at relocating and doing it – all of these things at the same time is mission impossible."

Hagel said there are ways the community can help if they want the theatre company to stay at the Cultural Centre.

"Contact the Mayor and City Councillors and ask them to use their influence to facilitate the two organizations collaborating. We've also started a GoFundMe page, and the third thing we're asking is people to step up by buying tickets for the Summer Theatre Festival, and we're guaranteeing a good time!"

RuBarb estimates they will need approximately $25,000 to move to a new facility.
