Moose Jaw has a history as a railroad town but an elderly couple from Victoria Heights on Moose Jaw's west side has asked city council to step in so they can get a good night's sleep. The couple has raised concerns about train whistles during the night at the Thatcher Drive crossing near Iron Bridge.

In a multi-page letter to council, the couple says some operators are considerate of neighbours and take it easy on the whistle, while others will let the whistle go for up to eleven seconds in the dead of the night.

City Manager Jim Puffalt has decided to take on the concerns himself and says there are some federal regulations that can be used to create a no whistling zone.

"If council is interested in pursuing it, we have to talk to CN (Rail) and determine if that crossing is eligible for it. There's quite the regulations for when that 'no whistling' can be implemented inside of city limits or at any crossing."

The second issue raised by the couple is a concern of trains idling in the city limits that are causing noise and disruption. Council has passed a motion to speak with CN Rail about their options and concerns that are being raised.
