It's National Teen Driver Safety week and Students Against Distracted Driving(SADD) are working hard to promote safety and the importance of being responsible while you're behind the wheel.

Vanier's SADD members have made a connection with the local police force and will be rewarding young drivers who are being safe.

"We're working with the Moose Jaw City Police here at Vanier and doing some positive ticketing," explained Adult Advisor for the local SADD group, Sharol Murdoch. "When you are pulled over and you're not on cell phone and not distracted you have an opportunity to be entered to get a positive ticket and some great prizes."

Statistics were released by SGI stating that collisions involving a teenager in 2016, showed that young drivers were at fault for 79% of the accidents.

She added that there's many factors that fall under the category of distracted driving and most importantly students want to spread awareness to keep everyone out of harms way.

Vaniers SADD group is also heading to a Saskatchewan SADD conference this upcoming weekend to get tips on how to better deal with distracted driving in the community.
