Local agencies such as the Moose Jaw Police Service, SGI and KidsFirst got together to host a car seat clinic Wednesday in Moose Jaw.

This event is typically held twice in the summer time for residents at no cost to ensure their child's car seat is safe and up to date without any recalls.

"It's just to ensure that the child restraints are in safely, nobody gets ticketed, it's just to make sure the safety of the child isn't compromised," explained KidsFrist Michelle Smerek, within the Five Hills Health Region.

She added that in many cases parents are driving without realizing their car/booster seat is expired or a recall has been issued for their make and model.

"Every car seat clinic we see imperfect car seats either installed or there's parts that are recalled brought to us all the time. That's what we're trying to do is educate, correct and guide parents into installing their car seats properly, just for the safety of their children."

Constable Kent Westrom, was one of the officers in attendance on behalf of the police, and said to have your car seat checked can take anywhere between 2-10 minutes and believes it's worth every second.

"It's absolutely valuable, the child that's seated in their is the most important thing. The owners may not be aware of any recalls that are present with the car seats," said Westrom.

Smerek added there's a recall list posted on the Transport Canada website and advises parents to check each time one is issued.
