If you've recently purchased a brand new vehicle you're most certainly not the only one, according to the Canadian Automobile Dealers Association(CADA) the growth of sales has been consistent year after year.

"We came off our 4th straight record year in nationwide sales last year in 2016, but that doesn't mean it's going to happen every single year," explained Chief Economist for the CADA Michael Hatch. "I mean eventually we're going to have a year where we don't hit a record and I think everyone in the industry understands that, but we're in a 2 million market right now for the first time ever."

Hatch noted that retail sales are a very important indicator for the economy and within that auto dealers represent more than 20%.

"I think that nationwide economic growth is going to be a little bit stronger than most had predicted this year and a lot of that is concentrated in the western half of the country. We're seeing that reflected in record new vehicle sales and Saskatchewan happens to be on top of the heap so far this year."

He said despite many buyers heading online to conduct their shopping, he doesn't believe this industry will be affected by this.

"In a world where consumers go online for a lot of their everyday shopping, a lot of their small purchases we've pretty much been immune to that because for a purchase as significant as a new vehicle people still need to go into the store and test drive it and that's why dealers remain such an important part of the process and will continue to."

The CADA say that sales are projected to reach 2 million by the end of the year and even if they see a significant decrease to end 2017 the 15% growth rate so far has already secured another record breaking year.

All of Canada is seeing substantial growth in vehicle sales, but Hatch said Saskatchewan is leading the pack.
