Supplies are being picked up and toys are being prepped.  It's the May Long Weekend and that means a chance to get out to enjoy what Saskatchewan has to offer as the unofficial start to summer has arrived.

Minister of Parks, Culture and Sport Ken Cheveldayoff says a lot of people have been waiting for the parks to open this week.

"Saskatchewan's provincial parks continue to grow in popularity, we had a record breaking year last year in 2016 with almost 4 million visits and we're hoping that our visitations remain high and we'll continue to offer our visitors a great experience."

Campsites started to get booked up back in April but Cheveldayoff says there are some pockets at the various parks that are still open for campers throughout the summer. The best way to know for sure is to check their website and plan accordingly.

"The economy is a little softer, people are staying closer to home and the parks, of course are an excellent value. In fact, a three or four day stay in our Saskatchewan parks are amongst the lowest in the country, as far as fees go." explained Cheveldayoff.

"It's an excellent value, excellent way to see parts of your province that you haven't seen before and people are taking advantage of it."
