Monday night turned out to be a good one for the Saskatchewan Party.

The ruling party held on to its majority government by winning 50 seats to the NDP’s 11 seats.

Here in Moose Jaw, both constituencies will remain under the Sask. Party.

Tim McLeod picked up the win in Moose Jaw North with 4,2379 votes. The NDP’s Kyle Lichtenwald had 2,103 votes and the Green Party’s North Hunter picked up 152 votes. There are 951 uncounted mail-in ballots.

McLeod said election night was exciting after a long campaign. Becoming a first-time MLA, he feels there will be a learning curve.

“I'm coming into this with eyes wide open knowing that I have a ton to learn and I'm excited for the opportunity to learn as I go,” McLeod said.

“I'm excited to work with Premier Moe and the team of Saskatchewan Party MLAs that was built last night with the trust of the people.”

He will have some big shoes to fill as he will be taking over for outgoing MLA Warren Michelson, who chose not to seek re-election.

Michelson was first elected in Moose Jaw North in 2007 in a riding that had been held by the NDP since 1986.

“I don't have any illusions that the work he did was easy, so I'm going to work hard to try and connect with everybody and do my best to represent them as well as Warren did,” McLeod said.

Incumbent Greg Lawrence was the winner of the hotly contested Moose Jaw Wakamow riding.

Both leaders made a number of stops in Moose Jaw during the campaign as the riding has traditionally been close.

At the end of the night, Lawrence was declared the winner with 3,129 votes. Melissa Patterson finished second with 2,275 votes. Progressive Conservative’s Darcy Jensen received 225 votes and the Green Party’s Abby Firlotte received 138 votes. There are 778 uncounted mail-in ballots in the riding.

These results are unofficial as the mail-in ballots will be counted on Wednesday.
