Recent amendments to provincial legislation will expand the list of electronic products accepted for recycling in Saskatchewan effective May the first of 2018.

In consultation with the industry and other stakeholders, the Government of Saskatchewan repealed and replaced the Waste Electronics Equipment Legislation with the Electronic Equipment Stewardship Regulations, which allows for recycling of additional end-of-life consumer electronic products.

Brienne Bennett is a Junior Environmental Assessment Administrator and she gives us a list of products which will be accepted across the province this spring. "The proposed expansion list includes microwaves, desktop scanners, copiers, and fax machines, floor-standing printers, external storage drives and modems, gaming consoles, and some display devices like e-book readers and GPS devices."

The program will be comparable to programs in British Columbia, Alberta, and Manitoba and will include environmental handling fees charged at the point of purchase for each item.
