The Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation announced Monday that a new provincial and world record was set for an non-typical mule deer last hunting season in Saskatchewan.

Dennis Bennett was bow hunting in the RM of Arm River this past October and bagged a mule deer which antlers scored 293 6/8 using the official Henry Kelsey guidelines. That score set a provincial record. They then used the Pope and Young score method - which requires a 60 day drying period for the animal and only accepts archery submissions - the antlers set a new world record with a score of 291 1/8.

Bennet's score beats the previous record of 290, which was harvested in the 1920s by Nelson Clark. Saskatchewan now holds the record for the largest non-typical mule deer, and the highest scored typical white tail
