With the new helmet bylaw brought forward by the City's Transportation Services Advisory Committee, which will see helmets mandatory for minors, some new helmets were brought into the city thanks to SGI.

Moose Jaw Parks and Rec and the police department helped to get the grant, and together - along with the Moose Jaw Multicultural and Newcomers Community - helped provide kids who receive bikes from the recycle program, with a helmet too.

Constable Kyle Cunningham;

"We had a request through the cities bike recycle program – which is run through the cities Parks and Rec Department – we're able to now have a small supply of helmets where we can outfit young people so they can stay safe, because last year when kids were getting recycled bikes, they would ask for helmets and we weren't able to supply those."

"A segment of our population love to ride bikes but rent up to speed necessarily on all the safety regulations, so through some funding with the SGI grant to provide a lot of those young people with helmets, we can see them out there enjoying biking safely in our city"

Bike Safety Week was held last week, along with multiple bike rodeos to teach kids bike safety.

"A kid gets a scratch on an elbow or a knee, that will heal up pretty good, but if we talk about head or brain injuries, those are serious deals".
