SGI recently released some numbers in honour of Fraud Prevention Month, showing that their special investigations unit managed to save the company around 7 million dollars.

A long with this, they released some of the most memorable cases of fraud in the province, with investigators managing to save the company anywhere from 8 to 60 thousand dollars which could have been paid out to fake claims.

According to Tyler McMurchy with SGI, there could be serious consequences if you attempt to file a fraudulent claim.

"If you commit insurance fraud it leads to denied coverage and could result in criminal charges. It also means you’re flagged in SGI’s systems as a future risk, and can make it difficult to receive coverage from other insurers. On top of all that, the bill to fix that “stolen and damaged” property or vehicle is now the attempted fraudster’s responsibility."

If you know someone who may be committing fraud with the agency, please contact SGI's Special Investigation Unit at siu@sgi.sk.ca or 1-800-667-8015, ext. 6887.
