A global businesses firm called WeWork has banned meat at company events in an effort to be greener.

The office space sharing company, which has locations in 75 cities around the world including Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver, says that effective immediately, it will no longer serve pork, poultry or red meat at company events and will not allow employees to expense meals that include those meats.

WeWork says the change means they will use less water and produce less carbon dioxide as well as saving the lives of animals.

This has some local meat companies voicing their concerns. Vince Stevenson owns Ranch House Meats Inc. in Shaunavon. He says, "I don't know how they justify it. I'm both a cattle owner and I also own the retail side of it. I mean, we're treating these animals like as good as it can be done. It's a great source of protein. I look at it..fifty, sixty years ago our ancestors were way healthier than we are now. We should be looking at why were they healthy. It's because of the protein they're eating."

Stevenson adds that he thinks other large companies could follow suit but feels it's just a fad and people will come back to eating meat.
