Simpson Seeds says part of their mission is to "nourish the world." Recently, they did their part to help nourish those 60 kilometres away.

The local crop exporter recently donated cleaning and bagging of 16,000 pounds of red lentils earmarked for the Regina Food Bank.

A Regina-area farmer (Doug Harle) donated the crop and asked Simpson Seeds for help.

"He had some red lentils he wanted to (donate) and was looking for someone to process and do some shipping," explained Simpson Seeds Director of Operations Tyler Simpson. "We were more than happy to oblige. It's something we've done in the past and something we continue to try and do."

"We work with lots of different organizations to get aid into different countries," Simpson continued. "Africa, Sri Lanka..we've sent containers over there full of lentils. We've also shipped (product) to the States, and then we work with local food banks..always."

The lentils have been processed and put into 25-pound bags, which will be delivered to the Regina Food Bank this week.

"We have to give the producer credit," said Simpson. "He set up all of this for us and we were just happy to oblige."
