This Saturday, there's a chance for you to get outdoors and start practicing your aim for duck hunting season, all while supporting a good cause.

The Sask Wildlife Federation is holding their second annual sporting clay shoot fundraiser at the Hanley Sporting Grounds on July 11th at 1 pm. Many local organizations have been forced to cancel their fundraisers this summer, but the SWF has been able to come up with a creative solution that still abides by provincial health regulations.

Shannon Anderson is the director of education for the SWF and says that the event is perfectly suited for maintaining physical distancing.

"It's a unique fundraiser and we're really glad we're able to have it this year amid COVID. It is something that we can definitely do while social distancing because there's tons of space. There are fifteen different clay shooting stations with two different clays at each station. It's kind of like a golf tournament."

The funds raised will go towards the SWF's various educational programs going into the fall.

"We are still able to hold our Women's Outdoor Weekend this fall in September. That event is pretty neat and basically just brings women together to learn outdoor skills that they otherwise wouldn't just pick up on their own. We're also doing a lot more in-school programs too, so we're creating a lot of activities that can be used in schools or with parents at home depending on what happens in the fall."

The fundraiser is also happening at a time in the summer when more participants will be able to join in.

"Last year it was a brand new idea. Unfortunately, we held it in October and it was very cold and we all froze. So this year we decided to host it in July when it was a little nice and so far we've got almost double the number of attendees compared to last year."

Anderson says that attendees won't need to bring too much of their own equipment.

"Clays and throwers are provided. You'll have to bring your own shotguns. Shells can be purchased at the grounds and golf carts can be rented as well. But if you want to bring your own quad or side-by-side that is also allowed."

Registration for the event closes by the end of Thursday.
