For two days the city of Moose Jaw implemented a snow route advisory.

That advisory has been lifted for the long weekend, meaning residents can use their usual parking spaces. The snow plow routes are closed off after a system rolls through and drivers are asked to keep their vehicles off certain streets to allow the machinery to navigate through the city streets easier and save time.

Earlier this week City Engineer Josh Mickelborough said clearing has gone pretty smoothly so far this winter.

"Of course last year ended on a big snow storm and congestion as a result. Certainly this year we are happy with the response. The last few weeks have been challenging with the amount of snow and how it's been arriving, and of course the extreme cold."

Mickelborough also added that the extreme wind chills have resulted in one plow breaking down, but that they are always keeping safety in mind.

"Safety is a concern at those temperatures. It's hard on equipment and people. We try and strike that balance in making sure we are out there keeping the roads safe, but not putting the staff or equipment in jeopardy."

The city plans to reevaluate the situation at the start of the new work we, so we can expect to hear if the snow routes will be in effect or not on Tuesday.
