STARS Air Ambulance is a non-profit air ambulance organization that is completely funded by individual donors, service groups, corporate donors and government contributions. This week they received a cheque at a presentation from Suburban Extended Stay Hotel.

Suburban Hotels were allowing customers in Estevan, Kindersley and Moose Jaw to use the promo code STARS when booking a room to save 15%, with a portion of the room rate going toward STARS.

Lisa Schenher, Regional Sales Manager for Suburban Hotels, explained how they gathered the donations.

"We came up with the idea of giving 15% back to the consumer so if they book under the STARS code, that's how we track it, so we can give back to STARS. $5 goes back to STARS for every room stay."

STARS Air Ambulance Member, Marlys Wasylyniuk, explained what the money will be going toward.

"Keeping helicopters in the sky as well as we do a lot of community outreach as well so we actually have an MEU, Mobile Education Unit, so that's actually our big fancy bus that goes around to different communities. As well we have things like ultrasound technology on board, blood on board, that sort of thing that we couldn't have without the fundraising efforts."

The cheque presentation was for $3,845, and Suburban says they plan on sticking with this promotion.

"As more people know, it's going to increase and that will increase money for STARS," Schenher said."You don't have to be in the medical field - anybody who books using 'STARS' - it goes to STARS."
