It's a day to celebrate and appreciate all the fine people in our community who give their time for free.

Today is Volunteer Appreciation Day, and with so many organizations in Moose Jaw that depend on volunteers to operate, it's a day just as important as any other.

Lisa Benson is a Leader with the Pathfinders division of Girl Guides in Moose Jaw and explained why volunteers are so important to the organization.

"Volunteers for girl guides are the cornerstone of the entire program. Our leaders are very important in helping girls to learn leadership skills and helping them to be more independent and contributing members of society."

Donna Blondeau is a Victims Services Coordinator for the Moose Jaw And District Victim Services and explained how important it is to volunteer.

"It's actually extremely important. We rely on our volunteers from our community to assist victims of crime and tragedy."

If you know a volunteer, say thank you today for Volunteer Appreciation Day.
