Golden West Radio Moose Jaw's fourth annual Toy Days toy drive is underway.

Toys will be collected at Canadian Tire on Friday and Saturday to support the Salvation Army in their quest to ensure every child has a Merry Christmas.

The Salvation Army’s Major Dan Broome, Director of Community and Family Services, said, "Everyone who applied this year, who has children, will be given a brand new toy or two, per household."

Broome said volunteers will pack the toys at the Salvation Army Church. "They will look at the toys that are brought in and select the best gift for the child in question." Broome said applicants should list what their child may want, and the Salvation Army will do their best to match the toy to the child.

Along with Toy Days, the Salvation Army's Kettle Campaign - the cash-only fundraiser which has seven locations throughout Moose Jaw - and their Christmas Assistance Program support families in need at Christmas time.

Previously known as the Hamper Program, the newly named Christmas program now offers gift cards instead of food hampers.

According to Broome, "We still have people who come from other countries looking for Christmas assistance. This way [with a gift card], they can buy what they want and celebrate Christmas the way they know how to celebrate."

To date, 189 applications have been received for the Christmas Assistance Program. Last year, the program received almost 350 requests for Christmas assistance.

"We're here to help," said Broome.
