The Moose Jaw Police Service is investigating following two incidents involving a knife on Friday night in Moose Jaw.

Police officers arrested a Moose Jaw male on a Canada-wide warrant after he allegedly stole a vehicle in downtown Moose Jaw, brandished a knife towards people and threatened to take his own life.

Moose Jaw's Mark Kelly was taken to Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital with a self-inflicted injury and will be charged with assault with a weapon and theft of a motor vehicle, the Moose Jaw Police Service stated in a media release.

Kelly reportedly stole a vehicle from the 100 block of Manitoba St. E. which was found abandoned within minutes in the 200 block of High St. E.

Police attempted to arrest Kelly after locating him at a downtown apartment, but he allegedly brandished a knife towards police and barricaded himself in a bedroom with other people.

Moose Jaw Police Negotiators were brought in and able to convince Kelly to allow two people to exit the room. The RCMP Emergency Response Team was then called in and successfully apprehended Kelly.

Police continue to investigate and Kelly will appear in court this week.

The second incident happened just before midnight when a male victim was reportedly stabbed during a robbery attempt, according to a police media release.

The victim was being treated at the Wigmore Hospital for four stab wounds and a black eye. The wounds were not life-threatening, but required stitches. The adult male is in stable condition.

The investigation continues.
