As Rogers Communications looks to improve their service in the Moose Jaw area, City Hall has received two applications for new radio transmission towers.

The Municipal Planning Commission will be meeting with the public October 23rd to discuss the applications that are for a piece of land near the Knights Inn and another on 13th and Caribou. One tower is planned to be 150 feet tall and the other being 100 feet tall.

Director of Planning and Development Services Michelle Sanson explains that councillors and residents get an input but at the end of the day, it's not just a local decision.

"They can come and speak to it and council could definitely recommend against it but Industry Canada does have authority over that and they can overrule council at that point."

However, Sanson says Industry Canada will take the advice and concerns of residents seriously as they deliberate on the applications, adding that she does not recall a time where council or residents were against new cell towers being put up.
