Voting opened up Friday morning at 7 and will last until 4 pm Saturday for this year's Kraft Hockeyville, with Pense hoping to become the first Saskatchewan community to win the title.

The town, with a population between 500-600 people, is really hoping to get the whole province to rally behind them for the grand prize of $250,000.

Rink Board member Graeme Crosbie, explains where the winnings would go.

"The money would go a really long way in getting us where we need to be to replace the brine piping system that sits underneath the ice, that's what we're working toward. The estimated cost in total will be about $300,000. So you take what we've already raised, about $106,000, and you take what Kraft Hockeyville would bring us and we could get that work done right away. That would be tremendous."

Aside from $250,000 toward rink upgrades, the community would also get a chance to host an NHL exhibition game. However, Crosbie says they would still have to get that aspect of the winnings figured out.

"The NHL game is kind of the cherry on top. I don't believe that the Pense rink would be able to host an NHL game though, so we'd have to look at alternative sites which would be Regina or Moose Jaw, and we'd work with the Kraft people to find a host site. But you never know, if Pense wins this thing, there could be an NHL exhibition game at Mosaic Place."
