Now that things are beginning to calm down, the City of Moose Jaw is reassuring residents that operations will soon return to normal.

A release was sent out to the public on Wednesday afternoon following Tuesday's significant power outage, which caused City officials to keep a close watch on our water levels. After a meeting Thursday morning they've decided to transition back into their regular business.

"We were monitoring it; our reservoirs were full. We were tracking use, consumption, and you want to be aware and be sure you're protecting the water supply and the community," explained City Engineer, Josh Mickleborough. "But we weren't in a situation that we felt it required any further action."

That being said, Mickleborough noted that we were only a few hours away from City and emergency officials sitting down again to discuss actions if this outage was prolonged.

"I think that we were looking at maybe about 4 or 5 O'clock making a call if we'd escalate things at that point and of course, before then the power came back on. The only other thing I would add is it was a broad power outage, and power comes back on to different areas at different times."

The conversations between SaskPower, the City and the Buffalo Pound Water Treatment Plant have always been frequent. Mickleborough noted that those phones calls were just a lot closer together than usual.

"We are in communication with the plant and we continue to get regular updates about how things are going out there. Right now, they're producing water. They're pumping, the power lines are all restored and reservoirs are full. We would respond the same should it happen again."

He said that if we are hit with another outage, Moose Jaw is in a good position to be able to provide water - but said all residents should be mindful of their consumption during times of crisis or emergencies.
