Tuesday night at City Council, a discussion took place about who residents should call if they come across a needle on the ground.

Both Moose Jaw City Police and the Fire Department have been trained in disposing of needles if you should fine one. But there is a third option now according to Fire Chief Rod Montgomery, who says the city's Parks and Recreation Department have been trained as well and can dispose of any drug paraphernalia that is found in City green spaces or public parks.

Moose Jaw Deputy Fire Chief Mike Russell spoke on the issue earlier this summer.

"I don’t want people to be alarmed – it's not a big issue right now. It's not like we're going through an overabundance of these type of calls. They are still infrequent and we don’t want people to be alarmed by them, but like I said we also want the public to know that we don’t want kids picking them up. If they do see them, call for some type of resource and we will make sure they're attended to."

If you find one, you are asked to not touch it. Stay in the area, and to call the Fire Department or Police Service.  On Tuesday night it was also made clear that Parks and Recreation Department employees are also trained to pick them up if they come across them, but the city is stating your calls should be made to our local first responders.
