As the Mackenzie Screamer weather system rolls over Saskatchewan, the highways will become more treacherous as the day goes on.

Residents have informed us that north of Moose Jaw on Highway 2 there is blowing, blustering snow which is causing whiteout conditions at times, as well as north on

Highway 42 between Moose Jaw and Central Butte.

We could see wind chill factors closer to -40 degrees by Wednesday afternoon and into the evening. Flurries and blowing snow are also part of the system that began to show face in Moose Jaw Wednesday morning, and it is expected to really ramp up throughout the afternoon, causing temperatures to drop rapidly.

The fast moving cold snap is called a Mackenzie Screamer due to it being formed in the northern Mackenzie Valley, and then rushing or 'screaming' across the province.

Things are expected to improve Thursday leading to a chance of showers this weekend with a high of +3.
