The Saskatchewan Polytechnic Moose Jaw campus is hosting a one-day hands-on workshop for women who are interested in exploring a career in either Water Resources or Civil Engineering Technology.

The WITT workshop, or Women in Trades and Technology, will take place on Saturday, November 24th, and is geared towards women aged 15 and older.

Michelle Lanoie is a WITT coordinator with Sask. Polytechnic. “We’re a program that encourages and assists girls and women who are interested in trades and technology careers. We offer opportunities where they can explore in a more comfortable setting with women. We work with instructors, employers, professionals, and non-profits to build curricula for camps or workshops.”

Lanoie said their goal is to allow women to see themselves working in a career in trades and technology, careers that are often overlooked [by women], and that they would like to have more women in those areas “which means a broader diversity of perspectives and opinions in the field, and results in a more diverse business organization.”

Workshop participants will create concrete mixes, test water quality, learn about groundwater flow, and view both hydro-metric and atmospheric monitoring equipment demonstrations.

Anyone who is interested in the one-day workshop can register online or by calling the Saskatchewan Polytechnic Moose Jaw campus before November 20th. The cost is $20.

Women in Trades and Technology courses are available at all four Saskatchewan Polytechnic campuses.
