There are 1,954 new cases of COVID-19 in the province over the New Year's long weekend along with 756 recoveries and five deaths. 171 of the new cases are the omicron variant.

These included 623 cases on Dec. 31, 607 cases on January 1, 398 cases on Jan. 2 and 326 cases on Jan. 3.

Of the new cases, 124 were in the South Central zone, 566 were in Saskatoon and 509 were in Regina.

4,062 cases are considered active. 249 cases are considered active in the South Central zone

95 people are in hospital with COVID-19 including 84 receiving inpatient care and 11 in ICU.

The government also announced that someone who attended the COVID-19 press conference in-person on Dec. 30 subsequently tested positive for COVID-19.

The individual does not work in the legislative building; both Premier Scott Moe and Health Minister Paul Merriman have routinely been monitoring their status with rapid tests.
