Making the announcement last week, two animal clinics in Moose Jaw will be teaming up to tag-team after-hour emergencies.

The Moose Jaw Animal clinic and the Bellamy Harrison Animal Hospital will be alternating who handles after-hours calls but shouldn't change how any customers use either clinic.

Daniel Novecosky Registered Vet Tech explains how the new schedule will look.

"We're doing a 6-month trial to see how everything goes. The Moose Jaw Animal Clinic will be taking Monday and Tuesdays, and Bellamy Harrison will be taking Wednesdays and Thursday, and the weekends will be split between the clinics every other weekend."

Novecosky goes on to say one of the primary reasons to merge the work is to give employees a little more off time between shifts.

"One of the bigger reasons why we wanted to do this is because there is enough staff between the two clinics that we can split up any types of emergencies. That way it gives each clinic a little bit more time to do anything personal, relax and stay at home, or do anything they want to do like spend time at home with family."

For customers of either clinic or for anyone needing help with an emergency after hours – the process of contacting either clinic shouldn't change.

"It should just be the same number as always and then the call centre itself will actually delegate them appropriately. The only reason being, in the offseason with a large animal, Bellamy Harrison doesn't do any type of large animal so if there is an emergency, the call centre will know who to contact."

Novecosky says following the 6-month trial, they will then decide whether or not to stick with the alternating schedule.
