The Farm Credit Canada announced Wednesday that they will be giving $1 million to 115 community groups across Canada for rural capital projects through the AgriSpirit Fund. In Saskatchewan, 23 groups will benefit from this funding receiving a total of $172,500.

Each year, the fund awards rural communities between $5,000 and $25,000 for community improvement projects, such as emergency services equipment, playgrounds, recreation centres and care homes.

“People in rural communities work very hard to raise funds for much-needed facilities in their communities,” says
Michael Hoffort, FCC Vice-President, Prairie Operations. “At FCC, we care about the communities where our customers and employees live and work. The FCC AgriSpirit Fund helps us to support these projects and work with the individuals and groups responsible for leading them to strengthen their communities.”

Nationally, 1,374 applications for AgriSpirit funding were received – 297 of these came from Saskatchewan.  In Saskatchewan, $602,400 has been given to AgriSpirit projects over the past six years, contributing over $3.5 million in funding to rural communities across Canada.

To receive funding, the selected groups must meet certain criteria prior to the implementation of their projects, which must be finalized before December 2011.

Applications for the 2010 FCC AgriSpirit Fund will open on May 3, 2010.  Click here for eligibility requirements and more information.
