A deadly weekend on Saskatchewan highways as three deaths are being blamed on alcohol mixed with dangerous driving.

 

RCMP are faced with several investigations to start the new week as several deadly crashes occurred on the weekend.

A stolen truck has led to the death of a 10 year old Regina girl.

RCMP say the terrible incident started when they were tipped off to a truck being stolen in Balgonie around 4:30 Saturday afternoon. RCMP found the vehicle and as they were attempting to arrest the suspect they took off and struck an officer in the process.

Police pursued the vehicle east on Highway 10. Around 4:50 pm the truck veered into the path on a westbound mini van and collided with the side.

A 10-year-old girl from Regina was killed in the impact. Six other occupants, all family members, were in the van but were not seriously injured.

A 17 year old man from Starblanket First Nation, believed to be the driver, and a 46 year old man from Regina were arrested and taken to hospital. The two are now in custody and are facing a long list of charges. Alcohol is believed to be a factor.

A crash near Punnichy has claimed the life of a 49-year-old man. The man from the Gordon First Nation was killed in a single vehicle crash on a grid road when the vehicle he was traveling in lost control and rolled into the ditch.

The 44 year old female driver from Regina who was not seriously injured. Alcohol is believed to be a factor and charges are pending.

And a 38-year-old man is dead after a hit and run this weekend west of North Battleford.

RCMP say a vehicle driven by a 22 year of resident of the Sweetgrass First Nation collided with a pedestrian Saturday. The driver then took off but was found a short time later.

No charges have been laid at this time but police believe alcohol was involved.
