If nothing is done, one of our historic
downtown buildings will meet the wrecking ball in about 18 months
time. However, Moose Jaw's Business Improvement District is
determined to see that doesn't happen.
Chairman Dale Harvey would like to see
the house that used to be home to the John Howard Society moved to
the end of High Street East.
"We've had some preliminary
discussions about putting the BID office in there and sharing a space
with the Moose Jaw Heritage Foundation. We've been working very hard
on getting an exhibit from a local artist to be featured in the
building to be kind of a tourist draw."
Harvey estimates the cost to complete
the move and service the new building would be close to $150,000.
He's kicking off a fundraising campaign that includes letters to
local businesses and selling t-shirts.
The building needs to be moved because
the land that its currently sitting on has been sold and the new
owner wants the space for a new development. The owner has said they
are willing to help with some of the expenses to move the building.
