The Moose Jaw Atom A Warriors had a busy weekend that saw them hit the ice for three games and they were able to walk away with at least a point in all three contests.

The Warriors opened the weekend with a 4-1 win over the Regina Shamrocks at the Balfour Arena in the Queen City.  Marc Belanger led the charge for Moose Jaw with two goals, while Bryce Boughen recorded a goal and two points in the win. Dylan Duzan also scored for the Warriors.

They followed that win up by heading back into the Queen City on Saturday and battling the Regina Tigers to a 4-4 tie at the Cooperators Centre.

The Warriors trailed 3-2 going into the third period, but picked up goals from Belanger and Duzan to take the lead with 4:40 to go in regulation. Nate Silvester scored for the Tigers with just 21 seconds left to tie the game.

Gage Nagel and Layne Gadd also scored in the game for Moose Jaw. Gadd added an assist as well.

Moose Jaw finished their weekend at home with a 4-1 win over the Regina Royals at the Bert Hunt Arena on Sunday afternoon.  Tayden Hardwicke opened the scoring for Moose Jaw late in the first period, while Belanger, Boughen and Nagel all scored again for the Warriors in the win.

The Warriors sit in a tie with Lumsden for first place coming out of the weekend with a 14-3-2 record.

After the busy weekend, the Warriors are getting the week off to re-cooperate before they meet up with the Royals against this Sunday at the Bert Hunt.

Novice Flyers Finish 2nd in Saskatoon

The Moose Jaw Novice Flyers came up just short of walking away with the tournament title over the weekend at the Saskatoon Novice C Tournament.  In the final, the Flyers lost 6-5 in a shootout.

Bantam Mavericks Roll in Three Games

The Moose Jaw Bantam A Mavericks were also on the ice for three games over the weekend and walked away with five out of a possible six points to finish off the regular season in the South Saskatchewan Female Hockey League.

Moose Jaw opened the weekend with a 9-2 win over the Weyburn Wings. The Mavericks actually trailed 2-1 after the first period, but they exploded for five goals in the second to take full control of the game.

Crystal Wale had three goals and five points in the win for the Mavericks, while Makayla Anderson had two goals and three points and Kaelyn Logan-Pemkowski picked up three helpers.

The Mavericks would then head to Yorkton to face the Crushers on Saturday and Sunday in showdown for first place in the league.

Moose Jaw picked up a 6-3 win in the first game to clinch first place and then battled them to a 3-3 tie in the second game.

The Mavericks finish the regular season with a league-best 21-2-1 record. Moose Jaw will have a bye into the league semifinals.

In other female hockey action over the weekend, the Peewee Mavericks battled the Swift Current Fire Cats to a 3-3 tie on Friday and then beat them 6-2 on Saturday, while the Midget AA Mavericks lost 5-1 to the Regina Capitals on Saturday.

Midget AA: Warriors Split Weekend Action

The Moose Jaw Midget AA Warriors came away with a split of their two games over the weekend, winning 4-1 over the Regina Rangers on Saturday and then falling to the Prairie Storm, 5-4, on Sunday.

In Saturday’s game, Moose Jaw was able to build up a 3-0 lead heading into the third period and then put their foot down after Regina broke up the shutout, scoring twice in the final five minutes to seal the win.

Hayden Wiebe led the way for Moose Jaw with a hat trick in the win, while Josh Fitzpatrick finished with three assists and Zachary Wakeford had a goal and three points.

On Sunday, the Warriors started slow and had their comeback fall just short.

The Storm scored just under two minutes into the game and led 3-0 after the first period.

Dawson Kurz got Moose Jaw on the board with a power play goal late in the second period, but the Storm answered right back as Taylor Halbgewachs – the younger brother of Warriors forward Jayden Halbgewachs – scored to put them back up by three heading into the third.

Sean Price and Fitzpatrick scored for Moose Jaw just 46 seconds apart early in the third to make it a one-goal game. The Storm went back up by two just before the midway point of the frame and Joel Litt-Jukes responded for the Warriors to make it a one-goal game again, but that was as close as they got.

Moose Jaw was 2-for-6 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill in the loss.

Sunday’s loss ended Moose Jaw’s playoff hopes as they sit four points back with just one game to go. The Warriors will finish the regular season when they host the Notre Dame Hounds on Thursday at the Bert Hunt Arena.

Bantam AA: Warriors Split Weekend at Home

It was the tale of two games for the Moose Jaw Bantam AA Warriors over the weekend as they skated to a 6-1 win over the Melville Millionaires on Saturday and then lost 7-1 to the Yorkton Terriers on Sunday.

In Saturday’s win, the Warriors were rolling early as they led 4-1 after one before finishing off the win with a pair of goals in the third period.

Shay Barnett opened the scoring for Moose Jaw just under six minutes into the game, but Melville answered back just a few minutes later to tie the game up early.

The Warriors exploded late in the first period, started off by a power play goal from Jaxsen Wiebe with 5:21 to go in the frame. Brydon Bell added to the Warriors lead less than a minute later with another power play goal and then Caelan Fitzpatrick finished off the assault, scoring with 2:33 left in the first.

Riley Berry and Quinton Ross scored for the Warriors in the third to seal the win.

On Sunday, Yorkton jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period and rolled the rest of the way, adding four more goals in the third period.

Ross scored Moose Jaw’s lone goal on the power play midway through the second period to make it a 3-1 game, but that was as close as the Warriors got.

Moose Jaw finishes the regular season in sixth place in the South Division with an 11-16-1 record.

They will meet up with the 11th place Weyburn Wings in the first round of league playoffs, starting this week.

Peewee AA: Warriors Have Winless Weekend

The Moose Jaw Peewee AA Warriors picked up just one point in their two games against the Weyburn Wings at the Bert Hunt Arena on Friday and Saturday in the South Saskatchewan Minor Hockey League.

The two sides battled to a 4-4 tie on Friday night with Liam Fitzpatrick leading Moose Jaw with a goal and three points, while Caleb Newkirk, Brennan Watterson and Zidane Closs also scored.

The Warriors didn’t have the offence working as much on Saturday and came away with a 4-2 loss to Weyburn.

Rowan Calvert and Brendin Hughes scored in the loss for Moose Jaw.

The Warriors have a 2-20-2 record on the year. They finish the regular season on Wednesday with a trip to Swift Current to face the Broncos.

Peewee A: Warriors Shutout Bisons

The Moose Jaw Peewee A Warriors had a quiet weekend as they hit the ice on Friday, skated to a 4-0 win over the Regina Bisons and then took a break.

After a scoreless first period, the Warriors exploded for three goals in the second period, including a penalty shot goal from Braxton Mac Angus. Mitchell Parr and Chase Jocelyn also scored in the period for Moose Jaw.

Braxton Hooper added to the lead for the Warriors with 1:34 to go in regulation to lock up the victory.

Moose Jaw sits in second place in the Hockey Regina League with a 15-3-1 record, which has them four points behind the Regina Royals, but the Warriors have seven games in hand.

The Warriors return to the ice on Saturday to host the Regina Shamrocks at the Bert Hunt Arena.
