The Moose Jaw Atom A Warriors scored a big playoff win on Monday night, knocking off the Regina Royals, 6-5, in the Hockey Regina League playoffs.

Nate Lewko had a goal and four points to lead the way for the Warriors in the win, while Donovan Harkness picked up a goal and three points.

Moose Jaw had six different goal scorers in the win.

Harkness opened the scoring 6:32 into the game and then Kasen Watterson made it 2-0 for Moose Jaw only 1:29 later. 

Kyren Ernest put the Warriors in front by three with 8:17 to go in the first period, but the Royals answered back only 20 seconds later to get on the board.

Regina would tie the game before the end of the period, scoring two goals 1:08 apart, but the Warriors made sure they went into the first break with the lead as Elijah McFadden finished off a high-scoring opening frame by scoring with 1:28 left in the period.

Moose Jaw’s Maguire Payne extended the Warriors lead to 5-3 with a goal late in the second period and then Lewko put Moose Jaw up for good with a goal 6:50 into the third.

Regina cut the lead back down to one only 19 seconds later and they got within one with 1:30 to play, but the Warriors held on for the win.

The Warriors are now 1-1 in the playoffs. They will continue their post-season action on Friday night in Regina.
