It’s been almost a month since the federal government lifted their COVID-19 travel restrictions for those entering Canada, and business couldn’t be better for CAA Saskatchewan.

Terry Kazas is the General Manager of Travel Services for CAA Saskatchewan and says they have been wall-to-wall busy with travellers booking those long-awaited vacations.

“Ever since the restrictions for travel have been lifted, it’s been a revolving door here at CAA all across the province with our 11 branches. There are days that we have lineups, the phones are ringing, and the emails are chirping. It’s been crazy.”

As of Oct.1, travellers no longer had to show proof of vaccination against COVID-19 and wearing a mask on planes and trains is optional, no more random testing, and no need to isolate for those that are unvaccinated.

Those entering the country will also no longer be required to fill out the ArriveCan app, which caused headaches for travelers.

Kazaz adds that he is seeing a significant increase in group travel since the restrictions were lifted on Oct. 1.

“They’re feeling a lot more comfortable with it. We have plenty of groups going for CFL trips, music, sporting events, honeymoons, weddings, and all types of those things.”

“People are going together and worldwide together with friends, family, like-minded people, and as soon people see a little bit of snow then it really gets busy.”

On Aug. 9, 2021, the Canadian border opened its doors to fully vaccinated American travellers, while fully vaccinated tourists from other countries were allowed to enter Canada starting Sept. 9, 2021.

Prior to Aug. 9, 2021, the Canada/US Border had been closed to out-of-country travelers since March 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic wreaking havoc across the world.
